A dark, brooding story centered on brothers from an old political dynasty in Costa Rica. Familial discord, political treachery, and class struggle. A

The Amateur-Chris Bohjalian

A high school golf prodigy is involved in a tragic accident, changing her life forever. But her personal life was going to affect her emotional development anyway. This is a great book for a book club. Lots to unpack.A

Nearshore-Steve Hawk. Billionaire funding a nuclear weapon. Seems feasible as described. A quick read.

Sunrise-Tea Obreht. Three stories and timelines come together in an abandoned Wyoming mining town. I really liked it in spite of the need for better editing, but my book club was less enthusiastic.

We Will See You Bleed-Ron Currie. A violent labor strike in small town Maine. Good story, realistic, but not uplifting.

A Tender Age-Chang-Rae Lee. A coming-of-age story that was a bit underwhelming for me, but may be quite appealing to others- beautiful writing.

The Responsible Party-Claire Carusillo. Reviewed as hilarious by NYT, this fell flat for me.
