No One's Coming- Kevin Hazzard
Phoenix Air was created by some daring pilots who are willing to carry the most dangerous cargo imaginable. In this case- Americans who contracted Ebola while working in Africa. Astonishing work and dedication to detail. And a reminder that we need a functioning CDC of actual experts to monitor the world for rogue viruses and outbreaks.

The Madness of Believing by Josh Owens.
After hearing Owens interviewed, he seemed too bright and articulate to ever be emplyed by Jones. I still wonder if he went there in order to write a book, but however he became a part of InfoWars, he got out and eventually testified against Jones. Reading about Jones's followers is concerning.

Yesteryear by Caro Burke
A trad wife influencer wakes up in a pioneer home- no electricity, heat, water. She actually has to perform all those fun homey tasks she posts about .
A dark look at social media and already in the works as a movie by Anne Hathaway. Lots of buzz about this book.

The Scent of Oranges by Kathy George
A retelling of Oliver Twist from the perspective of Nancy. Haunting depiction of nineteenth century London. Also recommend Fagin the Thief by Allison Epstein. Both are absorbing reads.

Mule Boy by Andrew Krivak
A sparely written book of a young boy caught in a mining collapse who witnesses the death of his co-workers. The mine shafts are claustrophobic, the life is dismal. The tragedy inflects his entire life. Fine writing, sad but never despairing, and a satisfying ending.
