How to Lose Your Mother-Molly Jong-Fast

Molly is a wonderful writer and I loved this book about growing up with her famous (infamous) mother. She reminds me of Nora Ephron with her NY accent and humor. I listened to the audible and highly recommend it.

The Whyte Python World Tour by Travis Kennedy

A giddy romp about a metal band in the 80's used by the CIA to foment unrest among young people in Communist countries. Already being made into a streaming series. Fun escapist reading.

Fever Beach by Carl Hiaasen

I read all of Hiaasen's books. His sarcastic mockery of contemporary culture is spot on. You can think it is outrageously over the top, but he has said many times that it is all ripped from the headlines in...Florida.

What Kind of Paradise by Janelle Brown

A girl raised off the grid by her father, finds herself evading the law after he involves her in a dangerous protest.Engaging story will keep you reading.

Ruth Run by Elizabeth Kaufman

This book of a young woman who finds a way to rob banks using a microchip program is like a thrill ride; it moves fast and leaves you a little heady.

I cannot explain the mechanism of the cybercrime she constructed, but it did make me a bit paranoid about the security of my savings.

King of Ashes by S.A. Cosby

This is a bestseller because Cosby is an outstanding writer. His interviews are thoughtful, intelligent, and intellectual. But his books are gritty, violent, and realistic- set in his home base of small town Virginia. Not for those of delicate sensibilities. I have read all of his books and they are fast moving with fully drawn characters.

Among Friends by Hal Ebbott

This is a slow burn of a novel and presents a very difficult topic. Perfect for book club! What comes between friends to sever a relationship? Not a lot of action, just a beautifully crafted story.

So Far Gone by Jess Walter. The author of Beautiful Ruins pens a story of an estranged father living in the wilderness called on to save his daughter and grandchildren from a cult.

Penitence by Kristen Koval. A somber read about a girl who shoots and kills her ill brother. Why did she do it? What happens to the family?

How to Dodge a Cannonball by Dennard Dayle.A satirical, slightly wacky story of Anders, a white boy who fights on both sides of the Civil War conflict, at one point as a member of the Black Union regiment claiming to be an octaroon.
