Avid readers may be well acquainted with Yaa Gyasi, but for those who do not or only know her recent book, please get a copy of her first novel from 2016, Homegoing. This profoundly moving saga follows two sisters from the shores of Ghana to the slavery of the South to present day. It is a stunning work and not to be missed.
Transcendent Kingdom is Gyasi's recent work and it too is a masterful piece. Less wide-ranging, but brilliant in its story of a girl who becomes a neuroscientist to try and discover the source of the psychological traumas of her family.
Gyasi has done some interviews around these publications. I highly recommend listening to one or more as they showcase her brilliance and passion.
