Replaceable You by Mary Roach
An entertaining and edifying book of the science of body part replacement. Roach is the premier science writer for the populace and all of her books are accessible, humorous, and easy to understand. Great for middle schoolers and up who are interested in biology, medicine, and science.
If you are offended by the actual names and functions of body parts, this probably isn't for you. I would have loved this as a kid!

This Is Where the Serpent Lives by Daniyal Mueenuddin
Epic story set in Pakistan from 1950's to present day. Intersecting families and their servants tell a cruel story of caste, culture, and corruption. Moves along thanks to superb writing. I found it hard to put down.

The Cormorant Hunt by Michael Idov
Second in this series, the first was The Collaborators, which hooked me on Idov. He is a talented writer and his books move at breakneck speed. So engaging, I finished it in the middle of the night after I woke up to get a drink of water!

Cape Fever by Nadia Davids
A Gothic thriller in 1920's Cape Town. A young Muslim woman works for an eccentric and controlling British woman. Davids builds tension with steady control of her story and leaves you with a strangely satisfying climax.

Erica Neubauer
When Lorraine Highsmith wakes up to a dead body on her front lawn, her first thought is "Who found me?" This is not a cozy mystery, it is fun and you have to admire a septugenarian protagonist who is an ex-mobster.

Anatomy of an Alibi by Ashley Elston
Every Happiness by Reena Shah
Evelyn in Transit by David Guterson
